Imagination is an incredible part of our minds. We think about if we could fly or had super powers when we know they are impossible. Dreams give us the pleasure of experiencing the impossible. Events and ideas in a dream can even affect our consciousness because we desperately want our imaginings to become reality. The character, Cobb says in the movie Inception, “An idea is like a virus, resilient, highly contagious. The smallest seed of an idea can grow. It can grow to define or destroy you.”
What if you could enter a person’s dream and plant an idea that grows into their consciousness? You could make that person do anything and they wouldn’t have a choice not to. This idea is called inception. A powerful thought right? Inception confronts this idea with Cobb placing an idea into his wife’s mind that her world is not real. The idea grows in her mind to the extent that even in her conscious state she believes that her conscious is not real but the dream is. The idea consumed her consciousness and drove her to commit suicide to “wake up”. Her imagination wanted to believe there was an alternate world and she wanted it to become a reality.
Ideas from our imagination can grow to define or destroy us which gives the imagination incredible power to do evil or good. Our sin nature will reveal that most of the time the imagination chooses to dwell on evil thoughts and ideas. Ask God to fill your heart and mind with His truths to penetrate our imagination and unconscious. Read His word and memorize it so that when unconscious thoughts overflow to conscious you will be Spirit filled. Imagination can be trained to dwell on what is good and right with God’s help. What are you imagining?
